FRESH MEAT EXHIBITION
This is by far one of my favourite collections of work I have created during my time at university. It is one of the projects that I feel I have really pushed myself to work outside of my comfort zone with 3D objects and displaying them to a large audience.
My concept was based on the idea of tattoos and tattooed limbs being something that could be bought at a store and seeing tattoos as products instead of art that you get put on to yourself.
SKETCHBOOK SCANS
This project was one of the first times I really felt that developing ideas within my sketchbook led to the final outcomes becoming much stronger than they started.
These are a selection of some of my more visually interesting pages.
PRACTICAL EXPERIMENTS
I had a lot of fun thinking about the best way to display these pieces, and whilst I was thinking about a display that would be big enough in an exhibition space I also had to think about it realistically and whether or not I would be able to put it together within the deadline.
I am very proud that the end product was close to what I had imagined and I didn't need to make too many compromises to my original concept.
These are some small concept tests that we had photographed at different spots around the university to see how things look in a bigger space and how to pick an environment that adds to the idea.
Placing them in the library came from the idea of cataloguing the body parts and seeing them as products. Placing them in the canteen was a favourite and really stood out as a strength of the concept.
I then went on to create smaller tests with foam board to experiment and see what could be done with them.
FINAL PIECES
I then started to put together the final foam board limbs for the exhibition.
I ended up having 11 legs, 7 arms, 6 hands and 6 feet all individually hand cut and with unique hand drawn tattoos on each one.
SETTING UP THE EXHIBITION
With the final pieces complete it was then time to assemble it all together in the university reception for our exhibition.
